Partner (Provisional) Visa

Subclass 309

This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily.

 

Getting this visa is the first step toward a permanent Partner visa (subclass 100).

  • You must be outside Australia when you apply

 

With this visa, you can stay temporarily until your permanent Partner visa (subclass 100) application is finalized or you withdraw your application.

Cost - From AUD8,085

Partner (Migrant) Visa

Subclass 100

The visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, live in Australia permanently. It is usually granted to people who hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309).

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This is a permanent visa

  • You must hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309)

 

With this visa, you can stay in Australia permanently.

 

Cost - You paid for this visa when you made your combined application for the temporary and permanent partner visas.

Partner Visa (Temporary)

Subclass 820

This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step toward a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).

  • You must be in Australia when you apply
     

This visa allows you to stay in Australia temporarily until your permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) application is finalized or you withdraw your application.

 

Cost - From AUD7,850 for most applicants. From AUD1,310 for Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) holders. 

Partner Visa (Permanent)

Subclass 801

This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia permanently. It is usually only for people who currently hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820).

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This a permanent visa

  • You must hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820)

 

This visa allows you to stay in Australia permanently.

 

Cost - You paid for this visa when you made your combined application for the temporary and permanent partner visas.

Prospective Marriage Visa

Subclass 300

With this visa, you can

  • travel to and stay in Australia for between 9 and 15 months from the visa grant date

  • work in Australia

  • study in Australia

  • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.

If you and your spouse want to settle in Australia, apply for a Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801):

  • after you are married, and

  • before your Prospective Marriage visa ends.

 

This is a temporary visa. You can stay in Australia for the period specified on the visa grant letter. This is between 9 and 15 months from the visa grant date.

You can include members of the family unit in your application either:

  • when you lodge your visa application, or

  • add a dependent child after you lodge your application but before we decide on your temporary visa.

 

Cost - The visa costs AUD8,085 for the main applicant. There is also a fee for each family member who applies for the visa with you. You might also have to pay other costs for health checks, police certificates, and biometrics. You will also pay a fee for your subclass 820/801 Partner visa. You pay less for this visa if you marry your prospective spouse and apply for the Partner visa before your Prospective Marriage visa ends.
