INZ Update - Most visa charges set to increase from 01 October 2024

Updated: Aug 22

Starting from 1 October 2024, changes to visa charges in New Zealand will come into effect. These charges, which include both fees and levies, will see an increase for most visa types. This move ensures that those who utilize and benefit from our immigration system contribute more significantly to its operational costs, including visa processing, risk management, and compliance activities.

Impact on Visa Processing Times

It's important to note that the rise in visa charges will not impact processing times. Separate initiatives are underway to enhance INZ's online services and improve the efficiency of visa assessment, processing, and risk management. These efforts are expected to lower the overall costs of running the immigration system over time.

Importance of Complete Applications

A crucial reminder for all visa applicants: submitting a complete application is essential. Incomplete applications may be declined, and unfortunately, INZ cannot refund fees for declined applications. If your application is declined, you will need to reapply and pay the associated fees again. Ensuring your application is complete from the outset can save you both time and money.

Subsidies for Pacific Visas

In recognition of New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to its Pacific neighbours, there will be no increase in charges for specific visa categories. This includes the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE), Pacific Access Category (PAC), and Samoan Quota visas. These subsidies highlight New Zealand's dedication to supporting its Pacific communities.

Additionally, the Refugee Quota and programs related to New Zealand’s international and humanitarian obligations will continue to receive government funding, ensuring that New Zealand's commitments in these areas remain strong.
