Reopening NZ border


Work visa applications


From Monday 4 July 2022, migrant workers outside New Zealand can apply for work visas.


This includes the new Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).

Partners and dependent children


Partners and dependent children of work visa applicants can also apply for a visa from Monday 4 July 2022.


Travel from the Pacific


As announced on 11 May 2022, people travelling from Pacific Islands Forum countries Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu can apply for a Visitor visa.


Applying on behalf


Applications for Visitor visas can be made on behalf of family or others in Pacific Islands Forum countries.


These applications can be made from New Zealand or anywhere else in the world.


Those applying on behalf of someone else must declare this on the application form.


From July 31


The New Zealand border will be fully reopen by 1 August 2022.


At 23:59 (NZST) on 31 July 2022 the maritime border will reopen, as will applications for student and visitor visas.


Applications for the Skilled Migrant, Parent, Pacific Access and Samoan Quota resident visas remain suspended.
